Recovery After Limb Lengthening
It’s the first words I use on my site here that making a comeback after a scary life event can be one of the most challenging things you can do. And it’s true! Especially when it comes to Leg Lengthening Surgery.
So can you regain your physical fitness and athleticism post-op. The short and sweet answer is…
YES! Yes you can definitely regain everything you lost while down for the surgery count. BUT it won’t be a walk in the park, it will take a lot of effort and focus on your part to ensure that you rest, rehab, rebuild and resurge your mind and body.
Also there are some factors that come into play that will affect your post limb lengthening surgery:
- Atrophy: you will lose muscle size and strength while you are down for the surgery during the distraction phase. This will not last forever and you will easily regain your muscle mass and tone once you heal via muscle memory so don’t fret. Be patient and take your time. It will all come back.
- Loss of flexibility: You just invested in new wheels! And no I’m not talking about a new whip…er…car. No I am talking about longer legs to be standing tall with increased confidence.
- Bullet Holes: Yup it’s gonna leave a mark and be sore and tender for a little while. I’m referring to those little insertion and incision sites where the lengthening rod and screws are put in. They’re gonna hurt for a while especially in the first few weeks when you are able to walk free again but they too will heal and allow you to rebuild new body armor.
With all those limitations being mentioned, you will still be able to make an excellent comeback to even possibly surpass your previous fit-self. How?
Well, you’ll need to obviously attend all of your prescribed physical therapy sessions and even implement your own rehab and recovery homework plan to do at home post therapy. I did this.
Post-Op, as hard as it was to really want to do anything besides lay dormant all day, I got to work formulating a plan to get healed up optimally because the best time to take advantage of your rehab and comeback is immediately after the surgery, not 2 months in because you will miss your window to be your best.
I plan on working on revamping my plan to get out to those of you who plan to undergo the surgery soon enough.
In the meanwhile I will continue to provide you will content covering various leg lengthening surgery topics. By the way, check out the video below which shows a few clips of me working out few years post op…better than I ever was before!
